Lately, I've noticed that the powers-that-be who create movie titles are just getting lazy. Case in point, Fast & Furious as opposed to The Fast and the Furious. These are two different movies with nearly the same title.
Just when I thought it was just a blip on the movie radar, here comes The Final Destination. Here's a sample conversation on how people will distinguish between this movie from its original, Final Destination:
"Hey, did you see the new previews for The Final Destination?"
"Uh, yeah. About nine years ago."
"No -- The Final Destination. New title -- it has 'The' ."
"Oh, THE Final Destination. Wow. This must be THE final one then! Awesome."
Basically, the "The" in the title is about as subtle as Clark Kent's glasses.
Here's a clip of THE Final Destination. I'm really glad to see that horror films are venturing into Racetrack territory. I hope there's a cameo by Danica Patrick!
Every time the ABC Family channel comes out with another TV movie, I cringe a little because it's usually an unnecessary sequel to one of my favorite movies from adolescence. Such films include sequels to The Cutting Edge, Romy and Michele's High School Reunion, and most recently The Sandlot (featuring a career-confused Luke Perry).
Now, the channel has decided to ruin classic films by making them bad television shows. Here is a 10-second preview of the latest ABC Family show for this summer:
Shortly after Heath Ledger passed away, I watched 10 Things I Hate About You and cried during the scene where Ledger serenades Julia Stiles with "Can't Take My Eyes Off You." I will probably cry again when I see more clips of previews for this new ABC Family television version, only for different reasons.
While merely flipping through the channels the other day, I came across the trailer for this straight-to-DVD catasrophe.
Jim Carrey movie + movie sequel - Jim Carrey = CRAP
Double strangely enough, Ace Ventura Jr. star Josh Flitter appeared as a young bully to a young Jim Carrey in the film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. None of us knew that Flitter would eventually go on to bully an uncontested successful Jim Carrey franchise.
Final thought regarding the Ace Ventura trailer: Animals might not have been harmed in the making of this film, but there definitely were a few careers that didn't make it out alive.
