I've written previous posts on my fetish with craigslist. Not only does the web site provide me with ample employers who can reject me, but it also has the profound ability to entertain me.
I found just about the best craigslist post EVER today (pardon me for the frequent use of dramatic "EVERs").
"Freelance screenwriter wanted to flesh out a script for a music video called "Cop Bar" by Indie singer-songwriter/nouveau celeb Jimmy Lloyd.
The concept is as follows: Setting is a rowdy , gritty Cop Bar, set somewhere in North Jersey or the outer boroughs of NYC. Guy ends up there who is not a cop.. wrong place, wrong time kind of thing.. you get the gist. Gets into a tangle with the Alpha Cop over the only pretty girl in the bar.. resulting in a raucous beer throwing, moshpit culmination. Felini-esque in terms of non-cop characters. All kinds of off duty cop shenanigans going on..ie envelopes changing hands with on-the-take money etc..Probably 50 extras or so. This may possibly be adapted to a short length film if we meet the right people who can do it."
I obviously had to apply for the gig. How can you resist this post? My favorite part -- "Felini-esque in terms of non-cop characters." I'm also wondering what's included in "cop shenanigans." I could think of a few things, however, my mind immediately goes into Brokeback Mountain mode. For some reason, I picture a "Cop Bar" as a cross between the Tool Box in Wayne's World 2 and Bada Bing on the Sopranos.
This is probably the most enticing thing I've ever read on craigslist. I'm beyond intrigued.
It gets better if you go to Jimmy's myspace page. Should Jimmy Lloyd's agents and "people" leave me an unsolicited flame of a post because I mentioned them in my blog, I just want them to know -- this is free publicity.
Listen to the "Cop Bar" song. I guarantee you'll have it stuck in your head all day.
I am a recovering craigslist addict. While at first it was strictly a professional relationship (me looking for jobs), it eventually evolved into me looking up other things on the site (i.e. the missed connections section -- like Serendipity for freaks).
The other day I came across this ad.

I think I get what they are saying, but the whole thing is pretty misleading. Perhaps that is what they wanted. They might get a few suicidal chicks, some aspiring actresses. Hey, maybe a few suicidal aspiring actresses. "Send a head shot." It'll be your last.
