What album title describes your life?
Once, while watching MTV's Total Request Live in high school, I remember Carson Daly interviewing Ben Affleck and asking him what album title would be the title of his life. Affleck said, "Stick Fingers." At the time, I found this endearing (this was before Bennifer and Daredevil). Looking back on this, um. . kinda gross. Mad props for picking a Stones' album, though.
Just yesterday, I was talking with a friend, lamenting about something or another, when I said, "Everyone else is doing it, so why can't we?" I realized that I had just recited the cranberries' 1993 album title. Yet somehow, my life always comes back to this phrase. I'm always trying to do something that comes easy for everyone else.
There are a lot of great album titles out there that can describe people's lives. Exile in Guyville (angry, jaded, single chick life). Oops I Did It Again (for the klutz or mad farter). Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water (uhhh, your guess is as good as mine). I guess in some ways, just as these titles set the tone for an album, they also set the tone for people's lives. I think I might make it a habit to ask new people I meet what the album title of their life would be. How very Barbara Walters of me.
I always loved Dolores O'Riordan's expression in the above picture (she's the chick among the dudes). She won't even look at the camera for the album cover. I remember being 12 and always looking at this image (Well, before my sister got sick on a car ride to my grandmothers and upchucked orange juice all over it). Anyway, I loved the simplicity of the image, yet felt like there was an untold story in O'Riordan's expression.
