James Franco: the reason why I'm being rejected from graduate schools
While reading Entertainment Weekly's summer movie preview issue the other day, I came across an article on Pineapple Express, a new stoner flick starring Seth Rogen and James Franco. In the article, James Franco mentions that he's working on finishing his bachelor's degree at UCLA. Totally commendable.
Then, he says, "But I'm going on to graduate school. For creative writing. What I really want to do is write."
This made my heart sink a little bit. I realized James Franco will apply to graduate school and get in. Just because he's James Franco. Just because he's dreamy and hot. Just because Judd Apatow is one of his references (no lie -- read the article). It just doesn't seem fair.
Then, I cheated myself into believing that the reason why I'm not getting into graduate school is because of celebrities and their need to fulfill "hobbies." Think about it. The Olsen twins attended NYU. Did they really need the education to start a career? No. Did we admire them for it? Kind of. Was it necessary? Absolutely not.
When the Olsen twins were to NYU, you had to feel for those who were rejected when the bag ladies lasted less than a year. What a waste. Give someone normal a chance. Someone who didn't possibly have a hand in Heath Ledger's death (too soon?).
I wonder what James Franco will submit on his resume. "Freaks and Geeks" should naturally be included (even if he didn't write it). I'd probably include the James Dean movie. I wonder what Apatow's recommendation would be like. "James can really write good 'Funny or Die' skits. Please submit him to [any prestigious writing school] for his ability to poke fun at 'The Hills.'"
I don't think I'd include Pineapple Express, from the looks of this trailer. Maybe graduate school should be his fall-back plan.

But at least we don't have to break our pretty little heads trying to figure out what useless toy to spend our money on next. And we don't have to wear sunglasses all the fucking time. Brilliant, isn't it?
Do you go to class with him????
